IT giants battle it out on the cricket pitch to support India’s disadvantaged children in London

Eight IT companies participated in the CRY Corporate Cricket Challenge to support the disadvantaged children in India. CRY – Child Rights and You, an Indian not-for-profit organisation for children organised a cricket tournament for IT companies in London on 23 July, 2005. The participating teams were Covansys, Iflex Solutions, Infosys, ITC Infotech, Mahindra British Telecom, Polaris, Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro Technologies.

The eight teams were divided into two groups. Group A consisted of Covansys, Iflex, Polaris and Wipro. Infosys, ITC Infotech, TCS and MBT formed Group B. There were two knock out matches per group, the winners of which played in the semi-finals. All the teams were extremely competitive and it turned out to be a keenly contested day of cricket.

Group A semi-finalists were Covansys and Wipro while Group B semi-finalists were MBT and Infosys. The pitch that group A played on turned out to be a high scoring pitch with each team scoring 100 runs plus in 12 over.

The final was between Infosys and Wipro. Infosys batting first put up a score of 110 in 15 overs helped by an excellent batting performance by Amit who hit one 6 and four 4s. Wipro got off to a shaky start with Sumeet taking a hat-trick. Sudhir and Srikanth with their excellent batting performance ensured a victory for Wipro in what proved to be a nail biting finish.

This event raised £5300 towards ensuring child rights for children with special needs in Prayas, a CRY-supported initiative in Jaipur, India.
