Event title: Indian Independence Day Celebration in London
Event Date: 15 August, 2004

Description of event:

A freedom movement for children - Indian Independence Day celebration in London
On Independence Day a group of 50 Indians re-lived the freedom struggle by visiting various statues and monuments in Central London. They were narrated the history of India and the sBritish Raj, the informed of the role of great personalities like Gandhiji, Jawaharlal Nehru, Jinnah, Lord Curzon, Lord Mountbatten etc in India's freedom struggle.

Some of the places visited by the group were: Temple law courts where Gandhiji and Jawaharlal Nehru studied law, saw the building of the Indian High Commission and understood its history, visited the statue of Lord Clive and his role in the battle of Plassey that saw the beginning of the British Raj in India and ended at the monument of Lord Mountbatten the last British Viceroy of India

It was a completely different experience for the group to re-live the Indian history in London, capital of the British Raj. The group enjoyed the anecdote shared with them that they were unaware of.

The walk was a guided tour conducted by London Walks, which brought a touch of history into our lives. This event was sponsored by ICICI bank.
