Banks compete on the cricket pitch to support India’s underprivileged children
Three of the city’s leading banks took a break from competing for business to playing cricket with each other to support underprivileged children in India. By participating in what turned out to be a keenly contested day of cricket, they supported several children with special needs in India.
On 5 June 05, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley, UBS and London Business School (LBS) participated in the CRY Corporate Cricket Challenge in London. This tournament was organised by CRY - Child Relief & You, an Indian charity for children.
UBS and Lehman Brothers kicked off the tournament at 10 a.m., on a pleasant summer morning. Lehman won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like a perfect batting track. UBS, however, came out with all guns blazing and got the opposition out for just 67 runs on the board. UBS won the match by 7 wickets supported by some great batting performance by their captain Affan Butt.
Morgan Stanley and LBS were up next. LBS stormed to 167 runs, hitting 3 sixes of the last 3 balls. Morgan Stanley faced a monumental task, and their case was not help by the loss of 3 early wickets. Their innings came to an end in the 14th over with the team almost 100 runs shy of their target.
UBS and LBS competed in the final. Batting first LBS put up a massive score of 158 runs in 20 overs. UBS was all out for 54 runs due to some great bowling performance by the LBS bowlers. LBS won the final by 104 runs.
The funds raised from this tournament will support children with special needs and underprivileged children in Jaipur, India.
